President's Message

FRCC students share some common goals

Andy DorseyWhen I ask students why they attend Front Range Community College, two answers are common:

If that’s you, you’ve come to the right place!

FRCC’s Office of Institutional Research recently reported that 1,298 FRCC students successfully transferred to a Colorado four-year school in 2009, the latest reporting year. So if you want to transfer, we can help you succeed.

Our faculty and staff work hard to make transfer as easy as possible. If you earn the Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree and transfer to a public college in Colorado, you are guaranteed a bachelor’s degree in most liberal arts and sciences fields in another 60 credit hours. There also are statewide transfer agreements in business, elementary education, and early childhood education, and 10 more agreements under way. And FRCC has other transfer agreements with institutions such as Colorado School of Mines and Regis University (Westminster Campus details, Larimer Campus details). See an advisor if you want more details.

Tim Taylor is one student who is taking advantage of guaranteed transfer. He graduated in May with an Associate of Arts and now is enrolled at Colorado State University. Because of his performance at FRCC, he earned a scholarship from the Griffin Foundation for $5,000 per semester. Congratulations, Tim!

I also congratulate Paige Shaw, an Automotive Technology student. She recently received a scholarship from the Poudre Valley Region chapter of the Antique Car Club of America. Paige developed an interest in working on cars when she started repairing her bicycle as a 14-year-old, and she has been fixing things since. In awarding her the scholarship, David Freeman, chapter secretary, told us, “We were pleased with Paige’s technical credentials and work ethic.”

Paige is an example of students with that second goal – gain skills that will make them successful in the workplace.

Speaking of success, congratulations to faculty and staff on their recent accomplishments.

  • Alexis Newton, chair of Nursing and Health Professions and director of Nursing at the Boulder County Campus, completed her studies and was awarded a Ph.D. from the University of New Mexico.
  • Peter Townsend, Welding Technology faculty at the Larimer Campus, has successfully passed the national examinations to become a Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and Certified Welding Educator (CWE). The certifications allow Peter to facilitate welding exams/tests in the American Welding Society (AWS) Accredited Test Facility at the Larimer Campus – the only AWS Accredited Test Facility in Colorado.
  • Ashley Maloney, coordinator of enrollment and recruitment, and Sheena Tebeest, PSEO coordinator, both at the Westminster Campus, graduated from the Metro North Chamber Leadership Program.
  • Jim Butzek, vice president of the Larimer Campus and chief academic officer, graduated from Leadership Northern Colorado.
