Bryan Niesent
Bryan was in the Ironworking program while a student at Rocky Mountain High School. Upon graduation in 2002, he enrolled at FRCC for more Welding classes. Today, he is a code pipe welder for Hettinger Mayo in Johnstown, Colo. “It’s very exciting,” he says. “I weld high-pressure vessels and high-pressure pipe to API (American Petroleum Institute) and ASME (American Society of Manufacturing Engineers) code.” A pressure vessel is a giant pipe used in natural gas fields. It contains filters that reduce the intense pressure of gas coming out of the ground to safe levels. Some of those pipes weigh up to 30,000 pounds. Bryan also teaches in the Larimer program – pipe classes, naturally. “I fell in love with welding,” he says. “Ruben (Vinton, the program director) helped me as a student, and now I want to help, too.”
