Rachel Carrier

With a Bachelor of Science in Business and three years of work in marketing, Rachel decided to change careers. Her ultimate goal is to become a nurse-anesthetist, but becoming a phlebotomist was her entry point into hospital and health-care settings. “Phlebotomy is interesting,” she says. “It’s a skill not many people are good at. It adds value to whatever medical field I end up in. I work with everyone involved in health care.” She works at Banner Health’s McKee Medical Center in Loveland, sometimes rotating to its Skyline outpatient clinic. She also has worked in doctors’ offices and nursing homes. She likes working in the hospital best. “This is a good fit,” she says. “It’s high-energy, and I stay really active.” The Phlebotomy Program at FRCC prepared her well for her work. “I have a friend with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing who drew blood two times before graduating,” she says. “I had done more than 300 draws before earning my Phlebotomy Certificate.”
