How Online Courses Work
Students interact with the instructor and other students through special course Web sites developed using the Desire2Learn course platform. You must meet regular deadlines, but can complete your work any time of day or night.
Setting Up Your Computer
All online courses use software called Desire2Learn. Please run a system check to ensure that your computer is properly configured for FRCC online courses, and make sure that your computer meets minimum system requirements.
New Student Orientation
We offer two types of new student orientation for our online students—on-campus or virtual. Learn more.
Books
To find the required books for your course, first know your online course and section number, e.g. ENG 090-500. (Section numbers for online courses are in the 500s.) Required books for online courses are not always identical to required books for classroom courses. Some courses also require software, lab kits, tools, or other equipment.
You can order your books from any campus bookstore. Order books online or by phone and pick them up in person at the bookstore. Books can also be shipped to you for a fee.
Online library
We have a variety of resources available to our online students. You are welcome to use any of our campus libraries, or access a variety of online resources.
Exams and Testing
Many exams can be taken online, however, some courses require proctored exams. You can take your exam at any FRCC campus testing center with a picture ID. If you are not near an FRCC campus, you may have your exams proctored at another pre-approved location (usually another college or library). Please contact your instructor for more information.
