Visiting the Writing Center

Come by C1557 or call (303) 678-3900 to make an appointment to meet at a specific time or with a specific tutor. Appointments are 30 minutes long and must be made one day ahead of time. You may come in for one appointment per day. We also provide a 30 minute walk-in service. However, during busy times there can be a significant wait for walk-in service, so it is best to make an appointment.

Online Writing Lab

The Online Writing Center is also available to get advice within 24 - 48 hours.

  • You may submit at any time, but our consultants work normal business hours and we are closed over school holidays.
  • If you submit late at night or on the weekend, please understand that we will review your submission the next business day.
  • Writing consultants will spend 30 minutes reading and responding to online requests.
  • To provide services as equitably as possible, students are allowed no more than one submission a day and no more than two, total, per week.

If you have questions about the Online Writing Lab, please contact Sonja Scullion, OWL Coordinator.

FAQs about the Writing Center

Q: Will Writing Center staff proofread and edit my paper?

A: Writing Center tutors do not edit or proofread your paper. Instead, they will point out recurring grammar or punctuation issues and help you recognize and correct them yourself.

Q: What help can I expect from the Writing Center?

A: Writing Center tutors are happy to discuss your writing project at any stage. Come in and receive help with brainstorming, developing ideas, organizing and drafting, researching, documenting sources, and using correct grammar and punctuation.

Q: How can I get the most out of my Writing Center session?

A: Bring in a hard copy of your assignment and a draft of what you have worked on already. We will read over your draft and help you see ways you can improve it.

Q: Is it better to make an appointment or just walk-in?

A: Appointments receive priority over walk-in service, so at busy times in the semester, it’s best to make an appointment. With an appointment, you’re guaranteed a 30 minute session without waiting.

Q: What should I bring to the session?

A: Please bring the assignment instructions, what you have written so far, and specific goals for the session.
