First Year Experience Program

The First Year Experience (FYE) program at the Larimer Campus helps FRCC students make the most of their first year of college by offering a variety of programs and services, including:

  • First Step Advising
  • New Student Orientation
  • Convocation and reception
  • Campus Resource Fair
  • Mentoring Program

First Step Advising

First Step Advising teaches new students:

  • How to read the schedule and course catalog
  • Choose a major and degree/certificate program
  • How to reduce tuition with the College Opportunity Fund
  • Access their student account

Learn from your peers

First Step Advising sessions are facilitated by First Step advising coordinators, who are FRCC students, so you'll get the information you need from one of your peers. Sessions are offered daily when the Advising, Counseling and Career Center is open, and last 30-45 minutes. No pre-registration is needed, although sessions are limited to 10 students.

Meet with an advisor

After completing First Step Advising, students proceed to Second Step Advising, when they meet with an advisor one-on-one to develop their first semester schedule. Students may participate in Second Step Advising on a walk-in basis (first-come, first-served) or may schedule an appointment.

Mentoring Program

The First Year Experience Mentoring Program offers first-year students the opportunity to be mentored by an FRCC faculty or staff member. Participants will meet with their mentor at least four times a semester to discuss their educational goals, get help finding and utilizing FRCC’s resources, and much more. Mentors are available to their students for guidance, questions, or concerns. Sign up for the Mentoring Program
