If you are a new student, the state of Colorado requires you to take an assessment test and enroll in appropriate courses unless you qualify for an exemption.
Accuplacer® is a computerized placement test. It is given on a walk-in basis (no appointment necessary) and is not timed. Please arrive with a government-issued photo ID at least 2 hours before the testing center closes. See Testing Center hours.
The test consists of:
- A mathematics test
- A sentence skills test
- A 300-600 word essay
- Optional: Biology placement test; Chemistry placement test
Reasonable accommodations will be provided with advance notice for persons with documented disabilities. No variation of the assessment can be made without prior approval. See Disability Services for more information on testing accommodations.
Testing Out Of State
To take the Accuplacer® in your local community, you need to do the following:
- Contact a local college or university testing center to see if they provide proctoring services. The testing center will need a computer with Internet access. Be sure the chosen proctor is willing to give a test lasting anywhere from one to two (or more) hours.
- Once you have located a site, complete this form, which will be automatically e-mailed to our office. We will contact the proctor for approval and notify you once the proctor site has been approved.
