My experience transferring from FRCC to CU
by Kim Duong
My name is Kim Duong and I am 20 years old, 21 in December! I was born in southern Vietnam and moved here with my family at the age of 4. I’ve been extremely blessed with the people I’ve met through the walks of life, and blessed with the life I now lead. Coming to the United States at 4 was an advantage—at such a young age I adapted easily.
I loved going to school to learn, but, as college neared, it became extremely stressful for me to decide where to go. There was also a lot of pressure from people close to me to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder, because my older sister had gone there and it’s a pretty well-rounded school. But I wasn’t ready for a university, so I opted to continue my education at Front Range Community College at the Boulder County Campus.
This was the best decision I think I could have made for myself. I spent my first two years at FRCC building up my math skills and business credits to transfer to the Leeds School of Business at the University of Colorado.
I see FRCC as an extremely dedicated, prestigious, well-rounded community college that gives wholeheartedly to the students. The faculty, staff, and administrators give 110 percent of their efforts making sure their students will succeed. Because of such efforts and support, I am now ready to give 110 percent toward my education at CU.
I’m going for my master’s degree in business at the Leeds School of Business, and I love being here! The professors are just fantastic people who, much like the professors at FRCC, are totally dedicated to their students. You always hear that being in a class of 300 to 400 students, you won’t get the attention you get in a small class say of 30 students. I was one to fall for that, but I’ve got to tell you, somehow the professors manage to cater to each and every student with questions or concerns.
My major is management and marketing with a minor in international affairs. I do aspire to be an extremely successful businesswoman. I hope to work for a corporation that I love and to one day become its president or CEO.
