Rod Atkins

Advanced Technology - Westminster Campus

When Rod started teaching at FRCC 30 years ago, mechanical drawings were done by hand. Times have changed, and so has Rod. He is so up to date on CAD software and curriculum he serves on the statewide faculty curriculum committee. Rod’s real-world industrial experience includes working as a drafter/designer for companies in the mechanical/air conveyor business and companies that manufactured underground low-profile mining front loaders and dump trucks. All that modern experience, but there is one area where Rod is definitely 20th century: vintage car racing.

Teaching Philosophy

What I teach should reflect real-life applications. I try to make the program as real as I can. I show students manufacturing processes, taking a project from concept to prototype.
