Preschool Child Care Classroom
Ages approximately 2 ½ to approximately 4 years
By the time children move into our Preschool Child Care Classroom, they
have mastered many of the language skills necessary to express
themselves verbally. Preschool children play an active role in
their learning process, often wanting to figure things out for
themselves. Preschool children need warm, caring adults to
guide them through this adventurous period and provide them
many opportunities to practice newly acquired skills, explore
interests, make choices, and more.
Children in our Preschool Child Care Classroom
benefit greatly from a balance of teacher-directed
and self-directed activities. Our curriculum at
The Children’s Place is very intentional, which means we
promote the learning of various skills in each and every
activity we do. While teachers often plan activities that
have a specific goal in mind, we believe that the most
effective way to engage children is by taking notice of
their interests and incorporating activities that will add
new knowledge. Dictating what a child must do all day
only makes the child an inactive component of his or her
learning process, and is ultimately ineffective. The
preschool teacher’s job is to give children choices and
follow their lead to enhance that learning process.
Group and circle times become an important part of the
preschool child’s day, as those group interactions make
children aware of their surrounding community of people.
Children learn to see their teacher as both the grown-up
in charge and the advocate for them as individuals.
