A high school chemistry teacher inspired Rusty to become a teacher. At Northern Arizona University, Rusty was both an intercollegiate swimmer and the mascot (the Lumberjack with the 40-pound head) at football, volleyball, and basketball games. Rusty earned a Bachelor of Science in Vocational Technology Education with an emphasis in secondary education.
