Sammy

His Prescription For Success

Then: FRCC PHARMACY TECHNICIAN STUDENT NOW: CLINICAL PHARMACIST HEALTH ONE NORTH SUBURBAN MEDICAL CENTER

When Sammy came to Colorado in 2004 at the age of 20, he had only one focus: to continue the health sciences education he had tarted in his home country of Nigeria. Thinking he wanted to become a doctor or a pharmacist, Sammy sought a program that would enable him to start earning a living while also pursuing his long-term goals. He promptly enrolled in FRCC’s Pharmacy Technician certificate program and just one year later began working as a Certified Pharmacy Technician at PharMerica in Broomfield.

While working full time, Sammy continued taking prerequisite science classes at FRCC for pharmacy school. In 2010, he transferred to the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) program at the University of Wyoming (UW) and graduated in 2014. During school, Sammy did one of his clinical rotations at North Suburban Medical Center. He loved the hospital and the entire HealthOne network and accepted a job as a clinical pharmacist when he graduated.

Today, Sammy prescribes FRCC to anyone who’s seeking a path to a college education. In addition to his full-time job at North Suburban, he continues to work “pro re nata” (PRN) as a staff pharmacist at PharMerica. At HealthOne, he gets to precept Pharm.D. students attending UW and Colorado schools. It reminds him of his own journey and is just another aspect he loves about his job: continuous learning.

"FRCC was the right place to start my plan. The classes are small, more like a family. All the instructors— every single person I met — set me up for success. FRCC is an environment that’s conducive to learning and very supportive as you grow."
