When Gio’s family immigrated to the United States from Peru, he was just 10 years old, and everything was foreign to him – including the language. Bright and determined, Gio mastered English quickly, and as time went on, he accli- mated well to his new life. The highlights were the times he spent meticulously taking apart objects and putting them back together again.

Most notably, cars. By the time he was a high school senior, there was nothing Gio loved to do more. So he was thrilled when he learned about FRCC’s concur- rent Automotive Technology and Service Program, which would enable him to explore his interest in cars while earning both high school and college credits – all before even getting his high school diploma. Gio enrolled and began learning immediately. And within the year, with FRCC training under his belt, his passion for auto technology was transformed into his profession with a job offer from Markley Motors.

For the next two years, Gio worked diligently on automobiles by day and toward four certificates in Automotive Technology at night. Next, he went on to earn his Master Honda Technician certification. And today in his position at Markley Motors, he continues to impress his employer, his colleagues, and his customers with his knowledge and skill.

Just as he has always impressed us with his drive.

“The teachers at FRCC were very knowledgeable and helpful. They always had time to answer questions and help me develop a better understanding of the cars. I learned so much, and I found a great career that lets me provide a good life for my family.”
