Larimer Campus
About the Larimer Campus
Since it was established in 1988, the Larimer Campus of Front Range Community College has stayed true to its commitment to educating the community. We offer classes at a variety of locations around Fort Collins and the surrounding area:
- FRCC campus at Harmony Road and Shields Street in southwest Fort Collins
- Stargazer Observatory in southeast Fort Collins
- The Community Gardens on Spring Creek in central Fort Collins
- The Regis University campus in north Fort Collins
- The Thompson School District Community Learning Center in Loveland
- Several other sites in the region
Career/technical programs
More than 25 percent of credits taken at Larimer are in the career/technical areas. Special agencies assure the quality of programs by accrediting Automotive Technology, Dental Assisting, Emergency Medical Services, Nursing, Veterinary Technology, and Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC). Several other FRCC programs are seeking accreditation. The campus also has partnerships with three public school districts for career/technical education for high school students, with some classes eligible for dual high school and college credit.
Partnerships and transferring
Hundreds of students every year co-enroll at both FRCC and the nearby Colorado State University. Others start at FRCC to earn an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree that is guaranteed to transfer to CSU or any other public college or university in Colorado.
In addition, the Larimer Campus has strong corporate alliances and programs, including:
- Health-care clinicals at Poudre Valley Hospital, McKee Medical Center, and Columbine Health Systems.
- Veterinary technology rotations at the Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital.
- The Village Homes' Observatory Village, where Stargazer Observatory is located.
- Clean Energy Technology program, which was developed in partnership with more than two dozen organizations in northern Colorado.
State-of-the-art facilities
Because of growing enrollment, FRCC is building a new building, Sunlight Peak, and renovating its current science building, Challenger Point. When the project is finished, students will have improved access to faculty, twice the number of science labs, and a beautiful new observatory.
Stargazer Observatory
Thanks to a unique partnership with Village Homes, FRCC operates an astronomy laboratory at Observatory Village, a housing development in southeast Fort Collins. Stargazer Observatory features a 14-inch Celestron C-14 telescope and Bisque Paramount ME mounting system. The telescope’s software contains a database of more than 30 million pieces of information, some gleaned from the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C., and the space-based Hubble Space Telescope Guide Star Catalog. In addition to the Celestron C-14 in the dome, other FRCC telescopes may be set up on a viewing balcony at Stargazer Observatory.
What’s in a name
In keeping with the Larimer Campus tradition, the campus buildings have been named after Colorado's Fourteeners (mountain peaks higher than 14,000 feet in elevation), signifying FRCC’s role as the 13th and 14th years of one’s formal education.
FRCC Larimer Campus occupies 47 acres situated at Harmony Road and Shields Street in Fort Collins. The campus has 175,000 square feet of space in seven buildings:
