Multimedia Graphic Design

Offered at: Boulder, Larimer, Westminster
If you have artistic skills and a creative mind, but also love technology, graphic design may be the perfect field for you. In today’s world, graphic designers work in many different settings, from print to animation, from video to web. Great graphic designers also understand clients’ marketing and communications needs and develop visuals that convey clear messaging that reaches the intended audience.
Digital media degrees
Earn an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Multimedia Graphic Design at the Boulder County Campus or Westminster Campus. Choose from four areas of concentration:
- Animation – Focuses on basic design concepts, basic and advanced drawing techniques, story boarding, and 3D animation technology.
- Print and Presentation – Focuses on the traditional aspects of graphic design. Students learn to create digital illustrations, enhance and manipulate photography, create dynamic page layouts for magazines and marketing materials, and gain the tools necessary to produce printed materials.
- Web Media – Focuses on web and multimedia design, teaching web design, web programming, web animation, and video editing.
- Video – Prepares students for entry-level video editing for television and commercial applications, production of interactive CDs, and original video production. Integrates design principles.

Learn more than the software
A big part of graphic design is technology, but FRCC’s Multimedia Graphic Design Program includes much more than how to use industry-standard design software. Our A.A.S. is a full design program that covers typography, images, and the creative process involved in designing graphics that clearly present information. Our digital media degree program also includes a series of art courses to give students a solid foundation in the core of graphic design.
Pursue a career in digital media
Our well-rounded A.A.S. program gives students the foundation to go into a variety of fields, from traditional advertising agencies to design agencies to video production companies to web production companies. Whatever your path, graphic design skills translate into many different professions. See gainful employment information.
Transfer to Metro State
Some graduates of our A.A.S. digital media degree program decide to pursue a four-year degree in graphic design. In fact, FRCC has a transfer agreement into a Bachelor of Science degree in Technical Communications and Media Production at Metropolitan State College of Denver upon completion of the A.A.S. degree at FRCC. If a bachelor’s degree is your goal, work with your advisor.
Award-winning faculty, state-of-the-art digital media facilities
The instructors in the Multimedia Graphic Design Program have won at film festivals, earned Emmy, Clio, and other awards, and have a breadth of professional experience. Students work with the latest design software (including the Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, and Cinema 4D) in our state-of-the-art labs, gaining practical experience that they’ll use in the industry. Also, FRCC Boulder County Campus students run a graphic design agency, while FRCC Westminster Campus students show their work at a Student Video Expo each year.
