This A.A.S. degree  provides basic to advanced training in heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration. Other topics in the program include: basic electricity and electrical components for HVACR, refrigerant tubing, fabrication, soldering, brazing, and trouble shooting, plus residential and commercial heating, hot water heating, industrial controls, advanced troubleshooting, customer service, teamwork, and communication.

Students must complete these Industry Competency Exams (ICE): Residential Air Conditioning and Heating, Light Commercial Air Conditioning and Heating, and Commercial Refrigeration.

FRCC’s HVAC/R Program is nationally accredited by PAHRA, the Partnership for Air Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration Accreditation, which is the only accreditation supported by major industry associations.

Commercial Refrigeration

This certificate program provides students with training in the installation, diagnosis, and repair of commercial icemakers, walk-in coolers, walk-in freezers, and self-contained refrigeration units.

Light Commercial A/C &Heating

(2 semesters)

This certificate program provides students an opportunity to learn and apply the general requirement of the International Residential Code, with particular attention to the sizing requirements of parts V and VI of the code.

Residential A/C & Heating

35 credits
(2 semesters)

This certificate program trains students in the design, installation, and testing of residential heating and cooling systems, with additional study of duct design and sheet metal work. Training also is given in the installation, maintenance, and repair of hot-water heating systems.

Transfer Option

FRCC has a transfer agreement with Ferris State University for admission into its Bachelor of Science degree in HVACR Engineering Technology and Energy Management. Its bachelor degree fits a variety of positions: application and/or project engineering, systems control, estimating, engineering, field technician, systems reps, marketing, control systems training, and HVEM in-plant engineering.
