Career Counseling and Assessment

Many students struggle with choosing a course of study or career path. Career Services can help. First, schedule an appointment with one of our experienced career counselors who will help you explore your options. We also encourage students to take a career assessment.

Career assessments

Choosing a career is an important life decision—one that will influence your feelings of fulfillment and happiness. Career Services encourages you to take this decision seriously by exploring your strengths, goals, and areas of interest.

To help students through this process, we recommend taking a career assessment. We use a variety of assessments tools:

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI)

The MBTI personality inventory is an assessment that measures an individual’s personality type by combining four preferences:

  • Extraversion or Introversion (E or I)
  • Sensing or Intuition (S or N)
  • Thinking or Feeling (T or F)
  • Judging or Perceiving (J or P)

The MBTI helps you identify career options and work environments that might be a good fit based on your personality type. The assessment takes approximately 15-25 minutes to complete. The cost to take the assessment varies by campus; contact your campus for details.

You will receive a five-to eight-page MBTI Career Report and an individual career counseling session in which a counselor discusses the results of this report with you. Appointments usually take one hour. Please bring your payment to the appointment; contact your campus for payment options.

Strong Interest Inventory

The Strong Interest Inventory is a widely used career assessment tool designed to help career counselors compare the results of their students with the results of people already established in satisfying careers. The Strong Interest Inventory can help you:

  • Identify career-related interests.
  • Devise strategies for conducting career research.
  • Plan your academic program at FRCC and beyond.

This assessment takes approximately 30-45 minutes to complete. The cost to take the assessment varies by campus; contact your campus for details.

You will receive a 12- to 15-page interpretive report and an individual career counseling session in which a counselor discusses the results of this report with you. Appointments usually take one hour. Please bring your payment to the appointment; contact your campus for payment options.
