New Instructors

Teach FRCC College Courses at Your High School

FRCC High School Select program courses are taught at the high school by qualified high school teachers as a part of their contracted schedule. Students complete college coursework in transfer and career and technical education pathways, in a familiar high school environment.

Once approved, you will collaborate with an assigned faculty member from your FRCC academic program (CE Lead) for support in delivering course curricula and to ensure that the course is taught at the college level and mirrors the experience that students have on campus.

As for all FRCC part-time instructors, attendance at academic meetings, semesterly review of syllabi, and yearly class observations are required. You may be asked to align learning materials, learning management system resources, and other elements of instructional delivery and assessment with on-campus requirements, and instructional costs are paid by the high school or district.

Students apply to FRCC like any on-campus student and create a permanent FRCC transcript.   

Qualifications to Teach

Qualifications are determined by FRCC, guided by the college’s accrediting body, the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).  High School Select instructors must meet the same educational and industry experience requirements as would be expected of any on-campus faculty or part-time instructor.

General Education & Guaranteed Transfer Courses:

• Generally, applicants must hold a master's degree in the content area, or any master’s degree and eighteen graduate-level credits in the content area.

CTE Courses:

• Qualifications vary by discipline, but generally require 2,000-4,000 hours of related non-teaching work experience in the last seven years and either a bachelor’s or associate degree (or specified professional certification) in the content area.
• All faculty and part-time instructors teaching FRCC CTE courses must be able to secure a postsecondary CTE credential, per Colorado Community College System (CCCS) policies for approved postsecondary Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. There is no reciprocity for currently held CTE secondary-level authorizations.
• Instructors must have industry experience in the subject matter taught and be familiar with the equipment used in the course(s).

Course Selection and Application Process

High School administrators are provided a list of suggested courses annually. FRCC takes a pathways approach to course offerings in partner high schools, with a focus on

1. First year general education coursework guaranteed to transfer to any public 2- or 4-year postsecondary institution in Colorado under the Colorado Guaranteed Transfer (GT) program and
2. First year CTE coursework that bridges to 2-year Associate of Applied Science degree and CTE certificate programs at FRCC. Applicants can work with their designated high school administrator to determine the specific FRCC courses they want to teach. Subject to faculty review, pathways can be further developed to allow completion of FRCC CTE certificate programs.

Once you have approval from your high school to proceed, your high school’s concurrent enrollment administrative liaison will provide a link to the FRCC Concurrent Enrollment Instructor job posting and application.

 

2027-2028 Planning Timeline

Thursday, October 15, 2026: Instructor Application Deadline

• Deadline to submit the online CE Instructor application through FRCC. A link will be provided by your designated high school administrator.
• Meeting the deadline ensures that your high school can advertise the prospective FRCC course(s) to students during the course request period and you have ample time to plan and complete required tasks before teaching.

Spring 2027: New Instructor Orientation

• Approved instructors will be individually invited to attend a Concurrent Enrollment Instructor Orientation, offered in the evening on the FRCC campus in January and March.

Spring 2027: Connect with the FRCC Academic Department

• Once you have attended Orientation, the CE Department will connect you with FRCC faculty (your assigned CE Lead) for academic support. Contact info is available from the CE Department if you have specific questions about the curriculum or course expectations before orientation.

The semester before you begin teaching: Complete the FRCC Instructor Hiring Process

• For example, complete in Spring 2027 for new Fall 2027 courses
