According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the field of medical records and health information technicians (which includes medical billers and coders) is expected to increase by 21% between 2010 and 2020. This industry has a faster growth rate, on average, than all other occupations, with an expected increase of approximately 37,700 employed in the field by 2020.

Healthy Salaries

In 2016, the average annual salary for medical coders/billers in health systems was $52,320, while medical coders/billers in large group practices had an average salary of $49,452, according to AAPC.
