April has a background raft guiding and working for Outward Bound. Oddly enough, her outdoor pursuits inspired her teaching career. “In the outdoors, everything you learned had a reason: you learned map and compass to get you home; you learned how to paddle to get you down river. Writing seems to be just as important!" April feels that in every field or academic track, writing skills are always important to effectively express ideas, explain what you know and understand choices you can make to accomplish your purpose.
Teaching Philosophy
A typical class with April involves active learning, field trips and/or a service project, and writing in different forms, such as creating a website, and writing for real people, not just the teacher.
