Dear FRCC Community,

As we kick off Black History Month, I found myself rereading Dr. Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech. I often reflect on the speech’s political impact, but it also made an indelible mark on American culture. Dr. King’s message of inspiration, hope, equality and justice continues to resonate, reminding me of the ongoing work needed to achieve a truly equitable society.

Over the past two weeks, we have learned a lot about federal policy changes—but as Dr. King said, “Let us not wallow in the valley of despair... even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow.”

Understanding the impact of these policy changes on the college and our students and employees can be overwhelming, but one thing remains clear—FRCC will continue to provide a welcoming environment, serve our communities and stay focused on our mission of providing education for all.

For those of you who are feeling overwhelmed, we understand that you may need spaces to connect and support each other. Led by the Division of Equity & Inclusion, the college offers community connections through the Employee Resource Groups such Allies & Advocates and peer-facilitated resource groups for employees of color, LGBTQIA employees and employees with disabilities. For more information contact OEI@frontrange.edu

And remember, as state employees we all have access to the Colorado employee assistance program, which includes counseling sessions and more.

I know things are moving quickly, so I will continue to keep you updated. If you haven’t done so already, I encourage you to visit our intranet page providing guidance on federal executive orders, so that you can stay in the know.

This Black History Month, now more than ever, we must stay committed to serving our students and employees while moving forward, stronger together.

IT Department Making a “Pawsitive” Impact

By now I hope you’ve all heard that our hard-working IT Department won FRCC’s inaugural “You Made a Pawsitive Impact” award. I want to congratulate our IT leaders and staff on this very well-deserved recognition.

When a campus need arises, this team swoops in faster than you can say “technical troubleshooting.” Their commitment to FRCC’s mission shines through in every interaction. They work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure every device hums to life, every connection holds steady and every piece of technology serves as a bridge, not a barrier. As the quiet yet essential backbone of our college, they ensure our success with patience and positivity.

CSU Launch Ram Transfer Academy

FRCC, CSU Launch Ram Transfer Academy

I want to congratulate everyone who has been working on building our new Ram Transfer Academy with Colorado State University. This has been a truly cross-functional team effort, involving staff and leaders from Academic Affairs, Enrollment Management & Student Success and our Strategic Marketing & Communications division. The program will help FRCC students prepare for a smooth transfer to CSU, helping break barriers to higher education.

In January, FRCC and CSU held a formal signing ceremony for the academy at the Grays Peak building at the Larimer Campus. Learn more about the Ram Transfer Academy.

This new partnership is funded by the Aspen Institute. The program builds on several successful transfer partnerships including the Wolves to Rams Learning Community, the NSF W2R S-STEM Scholars Program, CIC Computer Science Transfer Program and the NIH NoCo Bridges to the Baccalaureate Research Traineeship.

We are also happy to announce that Erin Pitts has been hired as the assistant director of the new Ram Transfer Academy and Orlando Cruz has been hired as the academy’s success coach. Both Erin and Orlando will be splitting their time between all FRCC campuses and CSU. Together, they bring 15 years of experience specifically supporting FRCC students in their transfer to and through CSU!

Tools & Resources

Bookstore Solutions Initiative

  • The Colorado Community College System is currently in negotiations with Barnes & Noble College (BNC) to be the systemwide bookstore provider
  • Barnes & Noble College has acknowledged the customer service needs of the system, and their team is engaged in earnest discussions with the system to ensure those are addressed.
  • Feedback on First Day Complete was received and will not be pursued by Barnes & Noble College during these contract negotiations. The CCCS committee remains committed to the position that this is not a viable option for any of the colleges in the system.
  • The FRCC transition team will meet with the BNC in February to go over FRCC specific requirements.

Vice President of Organizational Development & Human Resources

I'm excited to share an update on the search for FRCC’s Vice President of Organizational Development & Human Resources.

We are pleased to announce that Jeremy Moretti has been selected for this role. With extensive leadership experience, he has successfully led key human resources initiatives and developed impactful strategies for organizational development and change management. Jeremy is deeply committed to fostering employee engagement and cultivating a strong, success-driven organizational culture.

I’d also like to extend my gratitude to Arnie Oudenhoven for his outstanding leadership in this area.

Thank you for your engagement and collaboration in this search. I’m confident Jeremy will help advance our mission and strategic priorities.

College Updates

Enrollment Update

As you may know, the final day to add or drop classes for the spring semester is this coming Wednesday. Our spring semester census should be finalized next week, and we will be ready to share those numbers in the upcoming weeks. Preliminary numbers indicate an increase in enrollment for both degree/certificate-seeking students, as well as our concurrent enrollment population.

The Division of Strategy & Innovation, in partnership with Enrollment Management & Student Success, will provide additional details about enrollment by campus, degree types and student characteristics. Stay tuned for that update.

In closing, I want to remind you that our "why" remains clear—our students and communities are at the heart of everything we do. As we move forward, we will continue to build momentum by strengthening our connections, fostering open and respectful communication and embracing collaboration across the college. We will continue cultivating an environment where everyone feels supported, empowered and inspired to succeed. Thank you for your dedication and commitment to our mission—our collective efforts make us stronger.
