Become an Effective Colorado Contractor
The Contractor Academy teamed up with Front Range Community College to develop specific courses to help you develop your contracting business. You will learn from experts in the areas of accounting, operations, project cost and management, contracts, human resources and business development. Each course can be taken as a stand-alone class—or you can mix-and-match the topics you need.

Online Classes
Business Development for Contractors
This course is designed for employees beginning their management careers and those considering a transition into managerial responsibilities. This engaging and supportive learning experience is guided by the knowledge and experiences of you and your fellow participants. By the end of this 8-hour training, you will be able to:

Project Cost Management (in English)
This course is designed for management employees interested in learning ways to strategically
manage project costs. This engaging and supportive learning experience is guided by
the knowledge and experiences of you and your fellow participants. By the end of this
8-hour training, you will be able to:
- Consider key factors for accurate estimating and bidding,
- Define ways to assess and manage risk,
- Incorporate certified payroll considerations,
- Make appropriate cost considerations for contracts and design documents,
- Assess how application for payment, schedule of value, and change orders impact the
financial viability of a project,
- Summarize contractors' rights with respect to lien waivers,
- Use business planning and scheduling strategies to develop a business forecast.
Note: This is one of a series of courses presented through a Colorado Skill Advance Grant submitted by the NoCo Construction Partnership, City of Fort Collins and City of Loveland. All courses will be taught by an experienced instructor through Live Remote – so you can attend in the comfort of your home or office. Zoom link will be provided prior to class start date.

Finance and Accounting for Contractors (in English)
This course is designed for employees beginning their management careers and those
considering a transition into managerial responsibilities. We will begin with the
basics of accounting before exploring examples of banking, budgeting, and forecasting.
By the end of this 8-hour course, you will be able to:
- Describe the basics of accounting, including:
- Accounts payable,
- Accounts receivable,
- Accounts needed for banking,
- Tax review with a CPA.
- Accounts payable,
- Reproduce the steps involved in construction business planning,
- Explain the function of budgeting and forecasting in a construction business,
- Summarize the financial considerations for operating a construction business.

This course is designed for employees beginning their management careers and those
considering a transition into managerial responsibilities. This engaging and supportive
learning experience is guided by the knowledge and experiences of you and your fellow
participants. By the end of this 8-hour training, you will be able to:
- Describe the basics of contract language,
- Recall key considerations of subcontracts,
- Discuss how to negotiate a subcontract,
- Identify tactics to ensure effective communication of contract details.

Este curso se impartirá en español. Está diseñado para empleados gerenciales interesados
