Geographic Information Systems

 Geospatial Science Degree

A.A.S. in Geospatial Science

60-62 credits
(4 semesters)
This two-year degree prepares you to work in high-tech fields, including photogrammetry, cartography, geographical information systems, global positioning systems, and satellite remote sensing. Students learn how to: acquire geospatial information from a variety of sources, interpret, use and manage geospatial data for a given purpose, and how to use geographic information system software for storage, manipulation, and analysis of geospatial data.

 Certificates

Foundations of GIS

12 credits
(1 semester)

This certificate program introduces students to geographic information systems and cartography. Students work with advanced analytical tools and develop skills in spatial problem solving.

GIS

28 credits
(2 semesters)

This certificate program prepares students to assist scientists, engineers, technologists, and other professionals in building, maintaining, modifying, and using GIS databases.

Advanced GIS

11 credits
(1 semester)

This certificate prepares students to perform professional GIS work based on geospatial technical competency in vector, raster and light detection and ranging technologies. Completion of the GIS certificate, or demonstration of mastery of key GIS competencies, is required before starting the Advanced GIS certificate.

Paid Internship Opportunities

Geo-Launchpad is a paid summer research internship open to all community college students. It is dedicated to increasing the diversity of students in the geosciences, and develops research-ready skills for a career path in science, engineering, or technology. This eight-week program takes place at UNAVCO located in Boulder, CO from early June to late July. If needed, housing and a bus pass are provided to those who are accepted. Learn more.
