- Students are admitted into the RN program by a competitive process each fall and spring semester. Applications for Spring 2025 will be accepted September 30 to October 4, 2024. Please note that admission requirements are being updated to align with changes to the Registered Nursing (ADN) program of study that will go into effect with the new 24-25 FRCC Catalog (as of May 28, 2024).

Use the School of Nursing Application Checklist to review all criteria and prepare your application materials before starting the online application. The complete Program of Study is included on page 3 of the checklist.

All applicants must meet the minimum admission requirements. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The online application is available in Step 5 of the Steps to Apply section below during the application period only. View Application Ranking Sheet.

Immunizations are not required until admitted into the program. Once admitted, the Nursing Department will provide detailed information.
Step 1: Apply to become a student at FRCC
Select the Associate of Arts (AA) in Health Sciences in the college application if you are considering applying for a Nursing program.

Step 2: Complete prerequisites and/or transfer credit
Application Prerequisites
The following courses (or an equivalent transfer course) must be complete with a letter grade of "C" or higher and a minimum 3.0 GPA prior to application semester for the program. See Notes below for information about course repeats & withdrawals.
- BIO1010 Biology Foundations
- BIO2101 Human Anatomy & Physiology I w/Lab
- ENG1021 or ENG1022 English Composition I or II
- PSY2440 (PSY235) Human Growth & Development
In-Progress/Admission Prerequisites
The following courses (or an equivalent transfer course) must also be completed with a letter grade of “C” or higher and a minimum 3.0 GPA prior to final admittance to the program and registration for classes. However, they may be in progress at the time of your application*.
- BIO2104 Microbiology w/Lab
- HPR1010 Dietary Nutrition (1 cr) OR HWE1050 Human Nutrition (3 cr)
*If BIO2104 and a Nutrition course are in progress, you must upload an instructor email stating a projected grade upon completion of the course (all instructor letters must be submitted with your application.) Final grades will be verified prior to final admittance to the program and registration for classes.
Notes:
- Course Repeats/Withdraws/Fs or Ds: If a transcript reflects two Withdrawals (W) or course grades of D or F (or a combination of) in the same course, or a combination of required courses in the past 5 years, the applicant will be ineligible to apply to the FRCC Nursing program. This does not include Administrative Withdrawal (AW).
- Prior completion of BIO2102 from a regionally accredited college, including FRCC, with a letter grade of 'C' or higher is worth points in the ranking system.
- Credit from a transfer course must already be visible on your FRCC transcript for the application. Evaluations take up to 30 days to complete after the FRCC Registrar receives the official transcript and the Transfer Credit Evaluation Form. To be considered 'official', transcripts may not be issued to the student. Transcripts must be mailed directly from the previous college to the FRCC Office of the Registrar.
- All required science prerequisites must have been completed no more than 10 years prior to admission into the program. We will only look at the first two attempts of science courses within the previous 10 years and will take the higher grade.
Step 3:Take the HESI A-2 entrance exam
Take the HESI A-2 Entrance Exam
- Complete the HESI A-2 Entrance Exam with a minimum average score of 80% in the following required subjects: Reading Comprehension, Biology, Anatomy/Physiology*, and Math.
- *Anatomy/Physiology is a new required content area for the 2024/2025 catalog; if you took the HESIA-2 for the previous admission requirements in the past 15 months, without either Science subject, we will still accept your scores for the current admission cycle.
- The Learner Profile ID (learning style and personality profile) is also required but will not be considered in scoring your application.
- The HESI A-2 may be taken twice in 365 days.
- Reports can be used for up to 15 months.
- Exam offered at FRCC Testing Centers and Proctor U.
Step 4: Optional criteria for admission
Healthcare Employment Or Volunteer Experience Verification (Optional)
Experience in a healthcare or customer service field from the past 5 years may be included with your application for additional ranking points.
- To receive points, you must upload a Healthcare Employment Verification Letter to your application
Military Service (Optional)
- We honor the service of our military members. Please upload a copy of your DD Form 214 or CAC card as proof of your service.
Step 5: Apply to the WC nursing program
Applicants must upload electronic copies of the following documentation with your application:
- Unofficial FRCC Transcript (no other transcripts will be accepted)
- HESI A-2 Admission Assessment Exam Cumulative Report
- Job description and letter from employer or volunteer supervisor (if applicable)
- Military Service DD-214 and Essay (Optional)
Retain a copy of all documentation for your records. You will be notified of your placement status via the email(s) used when applying no later than 30 business days after the application deadline.
Incomplete applications will not be processed nor will the Nursing Department accept any additional materials after the posted deadline.
