Early Childhood Education

Alison Thielke is a teacher-learner who has a knack for both sustaining and broadcasting the wonder and curiosity present in every child. Alison has worked as a teacher, administrator, owner, and consultant in a variety of early childhood settings, including public and private elementary schools, child care, and Montessori programs. Alison has more recently facilitated STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) experiences for children ages 3-8 and has been exploring the application of design thinking to both early childhood and higher education. She is delighted to be working with the local ECE community toward improving the quality of the early childhood workforce.
Teaching Philosophy
Lately I have been describing teachers at all levels as “educational engineers” who use the art and science of teaching to design effective learning experiences for students. By nature, the learning process must involve both research-based practices and elements of creativity; a focus on student outcomes and innovation. I care deeply about student success. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing that “a-ha” moment unfold. But my educational goal is greater than that; it’s about making a difference for young children and their families in our community. If I can, through my students, improve the care and education of young children, then I’ve made the impact I intended.
