Welcome to the secrets of the universe! That is what I think sociology as a discipline offers. Specifically, sociologists pull the curtain back and look at our social world through a lens that takes into account race, class, gender and sexuality, power, deviance, family, institutions, the self, group dynamics, and so much more, while simultaneously addressing theoretical frames to explain why we do what we do.
I am also very passionate about social justice and being part of creating a fair and equitable society for all. The Sociology Club at FRCC offers the opportunity for students to engage and connect on topics of social justice – and I am proud to be the faculty advisor for such a great club! Feel free to contact me for more information if you would also like to get involved in some way! The more the merrier - you do not have to be in sociology- just bring your passion!
I received my Ph.D. at the University of Colorado in the department of sociology. My general specialty areas are gender, social psychology, social movements, and qualitative and interpretative sociology.
I have lived in some very beautiful areas including growing up in Hawaii, many years in Oregon, and have loved living in Colorado for over 10 years. Needless to say, I appreciate many aspects of our natural world and am interested in understanding the relationship between people, nature, and society as a whole. Oh, and I have the greatest cat ever. Her name is Amber.
