Multimedia Technology

This multimedia and design program prepares students for positions throughout the visual communications industry. You'll have the knowledge, skills and practical experiences in graphic design and multimedia software necessary for success in the workforce as an entry level designer/producer. These digital media degrees and certificates give you the foundation to work in a variety of settings, including: traditional advertising agencies, design agencies, video production companies and web production companies.

Graphic Design Degree

A.A.S. in Graphic Design

60-62 credits
(4 semesters)

The Graphic Design degree program focuses on the traditional aspects of graphic design and print materials, including digital illustrations, photography, and dynamic page layouts. You'll learn how to use industry-standard design software and learn about typography, images, and the creative process involved in designing graphics that clearly present information.

Digital Animation Degree

A.A.S. in Digital Animation

60-62 credits
(4 semesters)

The Digital Animation degree focuses on basic design concepts, basic and advanced drawing techniques, story boarding, and 3D animation technology. It also includes a series of art courses to give you a solid foundation in graphic design.

Web Design Degree

A.A.S. in Web Design

This Web Design degree focuses on web and multimedia design, including web design, web programming, web animation, and video editing. This certificate program prepares you for entry-level positions dealing with the production of interactive presentations, medical illustration, gaming, web animation, and cartooning.

Fundamentals in Multimedia Technology

This certificate provides a basic overview of the field and teaches basic multimedia skills. To enhance skills, students are advised to pursue an additional certificate and/or an AAS degree in Digital Animation, Graphic Design, Video Production and Editing, or Web Design.

This certificate program prepares you for entry-level positions with companies involved in web design. Students learn current web coding languages and techniques and create a website.

What You Will Learn

Upon completion of the program, you will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a knowledge of current design and multimedia computer software applications through a variety of skill-based activities.
  2. Create computer-generated art that demonstrates a basic knowledge of computer design principles and processes for multimedia output.
  3. Demonstrate an understanding of creative design, illustration, photography, product design and advertising as it applies to visual communication and mainstream markets.
  4. Utilize graphic design principles to generate graphics that emphasis self-expression and creativity.
  5. Demonstrate proficiency in sound and video techniques including conceptualizing, recording and editing.
  6. Design Web pages using visual elements and design principles using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML), construct forms, and determine and organize site structure using navigational planning and implementation.
  7. Demonstrate a knowledge of vector-based illustration through a variety of skill-based activities.
  8. Discuss, analyze, and utilize hardware and software for multimedia.
  9. Develop and utilize basic design criteria of multimedia, including treatments, storyboards and flowcharts.

State-of-the-Art Digital Media Facilities

Students work with the latest design software (including the Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut Pro, and Cinema 4D) in our state-of-the-art labs, gaining practical experience that they’ll use in the industry. Students at the Boulder County Campus run a graphic design agency, while students at the Westminster Campus show their work at a Student Video Expo each year.

The instructors in the Multimedia Technology Program have won at film festivals, earned Emmy, Clio, and other awards, and have a breadth of professional experience.
