Ram Transfer Academy

Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to the most frequently asked questions about Ram Transfer Academy.

What is the deadline to apply?

We accept up to 100 students each fall and spring semester on a rolling basis, so applying early is strongly encouraged. We recommend applying by July 15 for fall and December 15 for spring. If a cohort fills before you apply, you'll automatically be considered for the next semester. Note that RTA does not offer a summer cohort.

What is the required RTA class like?

"Thriving Through Transfer" is a one-credit course you'll take at FRCC your first RTA semester — offered online or on-campus at FRCC Larimer. It meets weekly and covers the practical and personal side of transfer: the CSU application, financial aid, time management, and building your identity as a future university student. You'll take two field trips to CSU and build a co-curricular transcript tracking your growth. Grading is straightforward — half attendance, half applied homework (think: submit your FAFSA, visit a campus resource). Low stakes, high value.

I have previous college credits, can I join RTA?

Yes – many RTA participants have previous college credit. Our Ram Transfer Academy Coordinator will help you find out how those credits will transfer and apply to graduation.

I'm a first-generation college student. Is RTA right for me?

Yes — RTA was built with students like you in mind. You'll get a personal Coordinator, a clear plan, and a community so you're never navigating the process alone.

What if I'm not sure I want to transfer to CSU yet?

That's okay! You can still apply and explore. Your Coordinator can help you figure out if CSU is the right fit for you.

Do I have to transfer to CSU?

No. Many students change their mind about their intended transfer destination, major, or plans after graduating from FRCC. You are not obligated to transfer to CSU if you participate in RTA (although we would love to have you).

Does Ram Transfer Academy cost anything?

No. RTA is completely free to join and free to apply.

Does RTA come with a scholarship?

RTA doesn't have its own scholarship, but we actively help you identify and apply for every scholarship you may be eligible for — including transfer-specific awards at both FRCC and CSU.

I have children. Will RTA work with my schedule?

Yes. RTA is designed to be flexible. Your Coordinator will work around your availability and help you build a semester plan that accounts for your family responsibilities — including identifying courses with online or evening options.

I'm using GI Bill benefits. Can I still participate in RTA?

Absolutely. RTA is free and works alongside your benefits, not against them. Your Coordinator can help you understand how your military credits may transfer to CSU and count toward your degree — which can significantly reduce your time and cost to graduation.

Will my military credits count toward my degree?

Many will. Colorado has strong policies supporting military credit transfer, and your Coordinator will help you inventory what you've earned and how it applies — at both FRCC and CSU.

I've been out of school for a while. Is it too late to join RTA?

Not at all. Many RTA students return to college after years — or decades — away. Your Coordinator will meet you where you are and help you build a realistic, achievable path forward.

I'm taking classes part-time. Can I still participate?

Yes. RTA works for part-time students taking at least 9 credits per term. Your plan will be built around your actual pace, not a one-size-fits-all timeline.

I'm also working while attending FRCC. Is RTA realistic for me?

Yes — and honestly, this is exactly who RTA was designed to support. Your Coordinator helps you make intentional choices about course load and sequencing so you're making progress without burning out.

I have a learning disability or need accommodations. Will RTA support me?

RTA will connect you with FRCC's Disability Support Services and ensure your academic plan accounts for your accommodations. You deserve a plan built around how you learn best.

I'm undecided on my major and career plans. Can I still join?

Yes. A huge part of what your Coordinator does is help you explore options and narrow down a direction — ideally early, so you don't take courses you don't need. You don't need to have it figured out to get started.
